VARD to build all-electric ferry for Boreal in Norway
Shipbuilder VARD has received an order for an all-electric ferry from Boreal. Specifically designed to glide through Norway’s fjords, the new car- and passenger ferry is scheduled for delivery by Q3/2019 and to be waterborne by 2020.

All-electric cargo ship on China’s Pearl River
In the Chinese Guangzhou province, a massive cargo ship with an energy storage capacity of 2.4 MWh has been put into operation. The vessel couples two 160 kW electric propellers and a mix of supercapacitors and Li-ion batteries for up to 80 km on one charge.

Innovative underwater vehicle with fuel cell propulsion
Engineers of Thyssenkrupp, Atlas Elektronik, EvoLogics, the Technical University of Berlin and the University of Rostock are starting to develop a „Large Modifiable Underwater Mothership (MUM)“ to explore the deep sea. Its propulsion is going to be based on a fuel cell system.

First cruise liner with fuel cell tech (Video)
As part of a pilot project, ABB supplies the first fuel cell system for a cruise liner to shipping company Royal Caribbean. Currently, the 100 kW system made by ABB and Ballard is on display in New York.
