Why Regional and Long-Haul Trucks are Primed for Electrification Now
According to a new study from the USA, the significant drop in prices for batteries and the improvement in their energy density are creating opportunities for battery-electric heavy-duty trucks. At the current global average price for batteries of 135 US dollars per kWh, a battery-electric heavy-duty truck already offers about 13 per cent lower total cost of ownership (TCO) per mile compared to a diesel truck, pays for itself in about three years and enables savings of about 200,000 US dollars over a 15-year period.
